Exposure to dangerous chemicals at home and in their communities puts Latinos at an increased risk for several negative health consequences as compared with non-Hispanic whites in the United States, Voxxi.com reports. Several studies have shown that among Latinos, there is a rising risk of premature birth, infertility and cancer associated with the issue. Common culprits include both industrial and agricultural products (pesticides, old insulation and pressure-treated lumber, for example) and common household chemicals such as cleaning supplies and personal care products. Experts say the reasons for the disparities remain unclear, but they could be because more Latinos are exposed to the chemicals while at work as well as at home.
