As a part of awareness efforts for National Hepatitis Month, May 15 has been designated as National Hispanic Hepatitis Awareness Day (NHHAD) as a response to the impact of viral hepatitis on Latino communities nationwide. Latinos are disproportionately affected by hepatitis B and C. As a result, NHHAD was created to unite the Latino community in efforts to raise awareness about viral hepatitis and to promote hepatitis C testing, prevention and education. Another goal is to draw attention to other critical health issues such as HIV coinfection and alcohol use.
