The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released data showing that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. health care reform, has made health care more accessible to racial and ethnic minorities in the United States, according to an HHS statement.

Under the new law, which allows young adults to stay on their parents’ insurance plans until age 26, close to 1.3 million ethnic minorities have gained coverage. This breaks down to about 736,000 Latinos, 410,000 African Americans, 97,000 Asian Americans and 29,000 Native Americans.
