Pope Okays Condom Use for Some
Pope Benedict XVI said that male sex workers who use condoms are beginning to act responsibly, The Associated Press (AP) reports. His comments were made in a book-length interview to be released on Tuesday, November 23. The pope said condoms are not a “moral solution” to stopping AIDS, but their use could be a “first step” in taking moral responsibility “in the intention of reducing the risk of [HIV] infection.” The pope also said abstinence and marital fidelity are the only sure way to prevent HIV. In 2009, the pope said condom distribution “increases the problem” of HIV transmission.

Okay, so let me get this right. If I become a prostitute, the pope is fine with me using condoms (maybe he figures I'm a lost cause anyway). He's right that condoms are not a "moral solution," they're just a practical one (are seat belts moral?). Hey, Mr. Pope! Be careful preaching about "intentions." We all know what road is paved with those!
