Most Parents Discuss Relationships, Not Birth Control, With Kids
While many parents talk with their children about sexuality, they don’t necessarily discuss key issues that might help protect their children, according to a Planned Parenthood statement. The results of a Planned Parenthood poll indicated that 92 percent of parents surveyed talked to their children about relationships and that 87 percent talked about when to have (or not have) sex. However, in terms of personal values, 74 percent of parents talked about how to say no to sex and 60 percent talked about birth control. The poll also showed strong support for sex education in middle school and high school, including learning about contraception.
